Outstanding League Fees

To those of you who do not have more than $1000 owing to me you may and well just save yourself the time and not read this e-mail - and I thank you for getting your payments to me on time.

For those 24 teams who still have league fees outstanding - feel free to read on as some of you may be having games cancelled in the next little while.

There are still 16 teams who owe more than $2000.  Of those 16, there are 9 teams that owe more than $3000.

As I have indicated in previously e-mails I realize that it is a thankless job being a team rep.  You try to run a team so that you can get out and play a bit of hockey and have some fun in a bar after the game - I can appreciate that.  I can also understand that the majority of team reps have to dig into their own pockets to cover delinquents (a very nice and polite term to describe them) who pledge their devotion to the team and then disappear as soon as league fees are mentioned.  I can even understand when their are a few players who bounce checks or are good for the team to have around.  What I cannot understand is consistently the amount of players that each team has that do this.

I know that some of you are busting your hump to run the squad and the last thing you need is to read an e-mail from me bugging you for money once again.

I have always said that I would prefer to be contacted ahead of time as to what your teams financial situation is so that I can expect to have an outstanding balance from your squad.  Of the 16 teams who are seriously late only 5 had contacted me.

Because of the teams that are not paid up I will have to once again carry some ice charges on my VISA.  Let's figure it out.  Of the $58,000 teams have owing about $40,000 of this is going towards ice rental.  VISA charges 18% a year (resulting in interest charges of $7200 per year) and it will cost me in the area of $600 a month because the team reps are not getting the money from the players.  In the past interest charges have not been built into the league fees but after seeing what is has cost he the last few seasons to cover some teams this may be done in the future - the only problem I have with this is that it would penalize teams who actually pay on time.

You may have noticed that I only released the schedule for the months of January and February - one of the reasons for this is that if your fees are not paid in full rather quickly I may decide to suspend you from the league effective March 1 (or sooner depending on how much money you owe) and you will not be able to complete the regular season and playoffs.

As I stated in a previous e-mail if you had not paid your fees in full by Dec 15 your team access to the schedule will be shutdown.  As of a few moments ago this has been done.  Once you contact me and let me know what your teams financial status is and when I may expect payment I may decide to reinstate your team access.

In an effort to assist the team reps (and myself) one thing that I am looking at doing next season is to have teams pay in full prior to the start of the season.  That way the players that are really interested in playing will buck up and away you go without any e-mail from me.  I can already hear the comment that the guys will not have money in September because they have been golfing and playing slo-pitch etc.  Although this is a valid excuse if the guys really wanted to play hockey they would budget their money so that they have enough to pay - hey, they have enough to pay for golf and slo-pitch.

As always, if any of you have any ideas as to how we can improve on things feel free to contact me.
